When you've lost your voice, your story can help you find it again

Have you ever felt like you're living someone else's life? Like your own voice got buried somewhere along the way—and you're not sure how to find it again?I know that feeling intimately.I'm Gina Blitstein, and I've spent the last 30+ years learning to unearth, acknowledge and trust my own voice. For me, it started in an abusive marriage. In 1988, I began documenting what was happening because I was forgetting—forgetting how bad it was, how often it happened, how much I was losing myself. Those journal entries became my lifeline, my proof, my path out of that 11-year relationship. But the practice I developed—what I now call "Story Mining"—isn't just for people leaving abuse. It's for anyone who needs to excavate their truth from beneath the stories they've been telling themselves. Anyone who's lost their voice and wants to find it again. That experience taught me something profound: our stories—whatever they are—contain the map to who we're meant to become. While my journey began with leaving abuse, Story Mining works for anyone who's lost their voice along the way—through relationship, career, loss, transition, or simply living someone else's expectations for too long. Those journal entries are now published on my blog. Raw, unfiltered, real. They show the confusion, the self-blame, the slow awakening, the emergence of voice. They document what it actually looks like to go from lost to found, from silent to self.Because I'm stepping into a "Role Model" phase of my life, I'm offering the guidance I wish I'd had: someone who's been there, who understands, who can witness your story without judgment in my new Story Mining Program.I'm not a therapist or life coach. I'm someone who learned to listen to her own voice by writing her way to freedom—and I can help you do the same.

A Note About the Journal Entries...
The entries on my blog document my experience leaving an abusive marriage. They may be difficult to read if you've experienced similar trauma—but they may also help you feel less alone. If abuse isn't part of your story, you might find yourself thinking "that's not me." And you're right—the specifics aren't you. But the patterns of losing yourself, making excuses, not trusting your own voice, slowly awakening to your truth? Those patterns show up in many kinds of stories.Read them as an example of Story Mining in action, not as a requirement for the work we'll do together.

Once you learn to recognize the storylines through which you filter your experiences, you'll be empowered to look at your whole life with a new clarity and sense of self-love.To experience the beauty and power of this process and discover how all that insight transforms into deep self knowledge, perspective and direction, read My Voice Post Series.

I never thought I'd share these journal entries publicly. They're raw. They show me at my most confused, most broken, most human. I bent myself like a pretzel trying to make sense of the abuse. I made excuses. I blamed myself. But those entries also show something else: a voice trying to emerge. A woman learning to trust herself again. The slow, messy, non-linear path from victim to survivor to whole person. If you're on that path—or someone you love is—I'd be honored to walk alongside you for a little while. Not to fix you. Not to rescue you.
But to witness your story, reflect back what I see, and help you hear your own voice more clearly.Because your story matters. And you deserve to discover the gold that's buried there. With deep respect for your journey,
Gina
